Weekly Parent Update - Friday 13th June

Our Year 2 and Year 4 teams took part at the Malden Cluster Swimming Gala yesterday, with both teams winning gold, so big congratulations to all involved on this great achievement!

Weekly Update from Mr Meehan

Thank you so much to all for a wonderful summer fair last Saturday! The weather wasn’t as unkind to us as we feared it might be, and we were still able to have indoor and outdoor fun. My thanks to all parents who helped plan the event, devise stalls, run stalls or helped out in any which way they could. Thank you also if you were just there and spent some money! It was a great community event, and I am thankful to the whole PTA team for making it happen. We raised a brilliant £7220 at the event - a wonderful achievement!

It’s been another week of lots of getting out and about, including for our Year 5 children at the Barnes Literary Festival and Year 6 at the Kingston Magistrates Courts on Monday. We’ve also had Year 2 and Year 4 teams at the Malden Cluster Swimming Gala yesterday, and both Year 2 and Year 4 won gold, so big congratulations to all involved on this great achievement! Our Year 3s are also enjoying a River Safety Talk today in school.

It’s been a delight reading the applications from Year 5 children for the roles of Pupil Leader and Worship Leader; there were so many good applications! We have now appointed our new worship leaders for next year, and we also have a shortlist of pupil leader candidates who will be running their campaign at their juniors over the next couple of weeks. Good luck to them all!

Thank you also to supporting all our children with their practising for their poetry recital and story telling over recent weeks. The finalists have now all been announced and our finals are next week, with our invited judging panel. It’s been wonderful to hear so many good performances already.

Thank you to parents who were able to join us for our next coffee morning for parents of children with SEND, which was held at the juniors this morning. It was lovely to see so many of you, and we intend to do more of this next year. More details later in the term of some visiting speakers too.

We also look forward to sharing with you soon some very exciting news regarding our school meals from September. Look out for this next week!

Have a lovely weekend ahead, and enjoy the sunshine.

There is a special lunch menu next Friday to mark the Summer Solstice which you can view here.

School Street Scheme - Lime Grove

Following the positive feedback from parents in our consultation earlier in the year, we are pleased to advise that a trial School Street will be introduced on Lime Grove between Poplar Grove and Coombe Road from 1st September 2025.

This will mean that, with the exception of residents’ cars, no cars will be permitted to drive down this section of Lime Grove at the times of drop off and pick up, meaning there will be minimal traffic along the road at these times of day, keeping the area around our school much safer.

School Streets support active travel by making it safer and easier for children and their families to walk, cycle or scoot, while also reducing local traffic congestion, poor parking and engine idling, which improves air quality.

The scheme will be enforced using Automatic Number Plate Recognition. There will be exemptions for vehicles registered to school staff, residents living within the School Street zone, emergency vehicles and Blue Badge holders accessing the school.

Kingston Council will be collecting feedback about the trial scheme through the "Let's Talk" page from August 2025, but in the meantime further information can be found here: School Streets web page."
