Weekly Parent Update - Friday 20th June
On Wednesday, our chums got together for the annual ‘Booknic’ which was another lovely celebration of reading and relationships built up between our chums.
Weekly Update from Mr Meehan
We’re delighted to announce that PS Catering Services has been awarded the school catering contract starting 1st September 2025. After a thorough and competitive selection process, including a visit to Malden Manor (one of their local schools) they were chosen for offering the best combination of quality and value not the lowest price.
The school is making a significant investment in this service because we believe PS Catering will deliver the highest standard of food, presentation, and support. We’re confident this partnership will enhance the lunchtime experience for all our children.
In the meantime, what a glorious summer week it has been, which has needed water, sun hats and lots of shade to keep us cool! Despite the heat, we’ve had lots of activity this week, with so many exciting things going on!
We started with scientist Dr Jilly Binks-Swain visiting Year 5 for a day of surgery, potions and finger printing! It was an exciting day for our Year 5s. On Tuesday, some of our Reception and Year 1 children were off to a mini athletics event, and our Year 3 and 4 choir were performing at the Rose Theatre, as part of the Kingston singing festival. On Wednesday, our chums got together for the annual ‘Booknic’ which was another lovely celebration of reading and relationships built up between our chums. Today, our Year 2 children are out and about at Morden Hall Park.
A big well done also to Macaw class who entertained and shared their learning with us yesterday, and it was a wonderful team effort.
As well as this, it’s been the week of our poetry recital and story telling competition finals. The standard has been amazing, and all our finalists did so well this week, performing in front of a big audience and a panel of judges.
Congratulations to Paula, Ellie, Poppy and Lexi in Year 5, who have been appointed the worship leaders for next year when they are in Year 6. We are grateful to the current Year 6 worship leaders, Henry, Milly, Alina and Selena, who have been leading worship this year throughout the year, at both the infants and juniors, and have been planning their final one this week to deliver next Monday.
Next week, our six pupil leader candidates launch their campaign to be elected, and they are all busy preparing their speeches for the following week.
Yes, it’s certainly been a busy one this week!
In terms of next week, please be reminded that children are only in school Monday - Wednesday, as we have INSET days on Thursday and Friday.
In the meantime, enjoy your midsummer weekend!

School Street Scheme - Lime Grove
Following the positive feedback from parents in our consultation earlier in the year, we are pleased to advise that a trial School Street will be introduced on Lime Grove between Poplar Grove and Coombe Road from 1st September 2025.
This will mean that, with the exception of residents’ cars, no cars will be permitted to drive down this section of Lime Grove at the times of drop off and pick up, meaning there will be minimal traffic along the road at these times of day, keeping the area around our school much safer.
School Streets support active travel by making it safer and easier for children and their families to walk, cycle or scoot, while also reducing local traffic congestion, poor parking and engine idling, which improves air quality.
The scheme will be enforced using Automatic Number Plate Recognition. There will be exemptions for vehicles registered to school staff, residents living within the School Street zone, emergency vehicles and Blue Badge holders accessing the school.
Kingston Council will be collecting feedback about the trial scheme through the "Let's Talk" page from August 2025, but in the meantime further information can be found here: School Streets web page."
