Weekly Parent Update - Friday 16th January
Congratulations to Lynx class on leading class worship with us yesterday, including sharing some of their recent curriculum learning.
Weekly Update from Mr Meehan
I hope you’ve all had a great week, as we get back in to the swing of routine again, and we have seen some (slightly) milder January weather, if a bit wetter!
It’s been a busy week at Christ Church, with our Nursery, Reception and Year 1 children enjoying drama workshops from Perform and a team of our Year 5 and 6 girls taking part in the Girls District Cup football competition, and winning their match 4-3. Also, congratulations to Lynx class on leading class worship with us yesterday, including sharing some of their recent curriculum learning.
Thank you to those parents who joined us for the next of our SEN coffee mornings today, in which we had an interesting talk from ADHD Embrace, and a good number gathered for this event. If you have any feedback on these events, or other speakers/topics that would be helpful for these events, please do let Mrs Roberts or Mrs Roe know.
We have now completed all our school tours for prospective parents, which we’ve been hosting since October, with the help of some of our Year 6 children. It’s been a delight to welcome visitors to our school, show them around and share our successes. We’ve also welcomed a handful of new children into our nursery this term, who have been settling in well over the last couple of weeks.
For those of you with a long-standing connection with Christ Church, you might remember Ray Robinson, who for many years was our lollipop man. Sadly, he passed away earlier this week, so our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.
I hope you and your family have a lovely weekend.
Our School Updates for Parents
Ways to Be Wall winners
Last term, we launched at the juniors our Ways to Be Wall competition, as we looked towards painting our white wall in the junior playground with new colourful designs. We had a bit of a road block in that the wall needed restorative work first before it could be painted. Now this work has happened, and we will be moving forward with this project in these coming weeks. A big thank you to all the children who entered the design competition, and to the PTA who provided art prizes for this competition. The winners, as announced in collective worship on Monday, were: Neva in Year 3, Jessica in Year 4, Gloria and Maya in Year 5 and Bella, Lexi and Madeleine in Year 6. Congratulations to all our winners!
STEM Lunch - Volunteers Needed
We're hosting a series of STEM Lunch and Learn events where parents with STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) expertise share their experiences with the children. If you work or volunteer in a relevant sector we would love to hear from you. Please email the school office with your name, role/profession and they will contact you with more information. Do also pass this invitation to anyone you know who might be able to help. Help inspire our future innovators!
Nursery Applications
For any parents making nursery applications for September 2026, please complete this form. The closing date for applications is Friday 6th March 2026.
Early Morning Clubs and Intervention Groups
Please could we remind parents that children should arrive at the start time of the club/intervention group before school. Some children are arriving up to 15 minutes early.
Wider Community Updates
Winter Walk for DSA - Message from Miss Friend
Myself, Mr Cook and Miss Brown are a team of teachers who wanted to do something special together to support a cause close to our hearts. We’re walking in honour of my sister, who has Down syndrome. Many of the children know her, as she has kindly visited Year 3 to help teach gymnastics, she is a qualified British Gymnastics coach and the children absolutely loved learning from her. She is an incredible role model: kind, determined, full of joy, and someone who inspires us every day. We wanted to do something positive to celebrate people like her and to support the amazing work of the Down Syndrome Association. This charity provides vital support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, helping them to thrive and live fulfilled, happy lives. So, as a team, we’ll be walking a long distance together — swapping our classrooms for walking boots! Every step we take is in honour of my sister and everyone supported by the Down Syndrome Association. We would be incredibly grateful for any support. Every donation, no matter the size, helps make a real difference. Thank you so much for cheering us on! https://www.justgiving.com/team/walkaholicsanon?utm_medium=TE&utm_source=CL
