Weekly Parent Update - Friday 1st May

A big well done to our running squad, who last Saturday took part in the London mini-marathon, where they also met Joe Wicks!

Weekly Update from Mr Meehan

It’s been an exciting week at Christ Church, and a big well done to our running squad, who last Saturday took part in the London mini-marathon, where they also met Joe Wicks! Thank you to Mrs Hedman and Miss Dusting, who were there too to join in the fun in the sun.

Additionally, some of our Year 5s were at the ‘Battle of the Borough’ football tournament on Wednesday where both teams played brilliantly. The boys’ team got through to the Cup losing in the last minute 1-0 and the girls’ team made it through to the Plate, losing on penalties 6-5.

This has been the week we said a last goodbye to Ian Duncan, and we wish him well in his retirement. He has given many years of excellent service to Christ Church, and we will miss him. Today, our new business manager, Karen Churms, fully takes up her new position and we welcome her to the team.

Finally, it’s always an encouragement to know people are praying for our school community. We have our next prayer meeting, at the junior site, next Wed, between 6-6.30pm and this is open to parents, staff, governors, clergy, and friends of the school. It would be great if a few parents could join us for this as we give thanks and pray for the future of our school community.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the long weekend, and we look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday!

Our School Updates for Parents

Parents Survey

If you have not yet filled in your parent survey sent via email, then over the next week is your last chance! We appreciate all feedback. Thank you.

KS2 SATS - Volunteer Test Administrators Needed

We still need volunteers every morning when Year 6 sit their SATs in English and maths from Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th May. Please use this form if you are able to volunteer on any or all of the days. Training and refreshments will be provided.

Gardening at the Juniors

Our junior eco team are keen to begin a bit of planting and gardening over this term, maybe even planting some vegetables in a little plot in the playground. If you are interested in supporting this in any capacity as a volunteer, maybe working with a few children once or twice a week in a lunchtime over the summer, let us know and we’ll explore what we could plant!

Connect Reminder

Please can we remind parents/carers that bookings for Connect close at 13:05 each day for afternoon sessions, and at 19:30 the evening before for morning sessions. Please allow sufficient time to complete any bookings.

Thank You from Mr Duncan

A massive thank you to you for my tremendous retirement gifts - the generosity and kindness you’ve shown me is a reflection of the amazing support you give the school. It’s been a privilege to play a small part in the lives of your amazing children; they have truly been the very best part of the job. Best Wishes, Ian Duncan

Wider Community Updates

Secondary School Place Confirmation

As the end of the school year approaches, we know many Year 6 pupils are looking forward to starting their new secondary schools in September. For most this is an exciting and positive time, but we are aware some children are still waiting for a place, which can cause anxiety and uncertainty.

We understand that it is common for families to hold a number of secondary school offers while final decisions are being made. However, if your child has now secured and accepted a place that you are happy with, we kindly ask that you notify local authority school admissions and formally release any additional offers you are holding.

Doing this as soon as possible will:

  • Help free up places for other children in our school community.
  • Reduce uncertainty and stress for children and families who are on waitlists.
  • Support a smooth transition for all our Year 6 pupils especially ahead of transition days.

We understand that not all families will be in this position, but even a small number of released places will make a big difference to those still waiting. Thank you for your understanding.
