Weekly Parent Update - Friday 15th May

Well done to Owl Class for performing a fantastic class worship yesterday.

Weekly Update from Mr Meehan

A big well done to all our Year 6 pupils this week, who have been working hard on all their SATs tests, and we are very proud of them. Thank you, too, to all the lovely volunteers who supported the administration of the tests.

It has been an incredibly busy and enriching week for all our year groups, including Reception visiting the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon, Owl Class performing a fantastic class worship yesterday, and Year 2 are currently enjoying an educational visit to Kew Gardens.

Today, we’ve also launched our Poetry Recital and Story Telling Competition, and teachers will be talking with their children more about next week, so they can begin thinking about poems or stories to share.

Next week in school is Science Week, which we are looking forward to. My thanks to Mrs Coltman, our science leader, who has been putting this together for the children to enjoy.

As we continue our half-term theme of We Are Family, I have been encouraged by the strength, warmth and honesty of our school community. Thank you to all the parents and carers who took the time to complete our recent survey - your views are invaluable and reflect the shared commitment we all have to ensuring our children flourish.

At the heart of our school is a strong sense of belonging, where every child and every family matters, and it is through working together - with openness, trust and mutual respect - that we continue to grow. You can see below a summary of your feedback, along with the actions we will be taking as we move forward together as one school family. It was heartening to see that 91% of parents would recommend Christ Church New Malden to others, with 96% reporting that their child is happy at the school. Additionally, though, there are also areas we wish to focus on more to respond to other helpful feedback, such as ensuring quality in our lunch meals, our Connect provision, our communications around children’s achievement over the year and ensuring sporting opportunities for all. We will feedback further on some of these areas later in the term. Thank you for all your feedback.

On the subject of school meals, I would like to thank PS Catering for providing for our Year 6 SATs breakfasts during this week. Later in the term, they are beginning a series of open lunch services for parents at the juniors, and you can read more detail from PS Catering below. The manager will also be attending our next class reps meeting after half term and doing some more pupil tasting and surveying.

Have a lovely weekend!

Our School Updates for Parents

Parent Survey

A summary of outcomes and expected actions from our recent parent survey has been sent via email. Thank you for all your comments and feedback.

Message from PS Catering

Following on from the success of the parent taster session we have met with the class rep parents and the Senior Leadership Team and it was felt that it would really be beneficial if you, the parents, had the opportunity to experience the school catering in person FREE OF CHARGE. During the summer term there are a number of day trips which means that the usually packed dining room will have some spaces.

We would therefore like to take the opportunity to invite one parent per family (from Years 3, 4 & 5) to come in to experience the food that your children have the opportunity to eat on a daily basis. To ensure there is availability we have three dates booked and have allocated one year group per day. These are as follows:

  • Year 3 - Wednesday 10th June
  • Year 5 – Monday 15th June
  • Year 4 – Thursday 9th July

Menus are available on the school website so you are able to see what will be on offer on the day. Please can you complete the form sent via email by Tuesday 2nd June in order to secure your place.

Gardening at the Juniors

Our junior eco team are keen to begin a bit of planting and gardening over this term, maybe even planting some vegetables in a little plot in the playground. If you are interested in supporting this in any capacity as a volunteer, maybe working with a few children once or twice a week in a lunchtime over the summer, let us know and we’ll explore what we could plant!

Connect Reminder

A reminder that Connect bookings close as follows:

  • Afternoon Connect bookings close at 1:05 pm on the day.
  • Morning Connect bookings close at 7:30 pm the evening before.
