Weekly Parent Update - Friday 17th July
A huge thank you to everyone involved in our recent fundraisers for the Princess Alice Hospice. Saturday’s cake sale raised £304.53, and Monday’s "Sponge the Staff" event at the juniors raised another £261.55.
Weekly Update from Mr Meehan
It’s been a fun-filled final last week at Christ Church. We have said a goodbye to our Year 6 pupils this week. Freshly back from their Isle of Wight trip, they presented their leavers’ celebration performance on Tuesday, and reminded us of many great memories! We wish them well in their many school destinations that they are journeying to next, and we know that they are ready and prepared to excel further!
Many, many housepoints have been gained, counted and collated over the term, and our winners this term are Chestnut at the infants and Lime at the juniors. Children in these houses on these sites enjoyed an extra ice pop break yesterday afternoon. The scores were very close, which reminds us that every housepoint counts!
We also said a final goodbye to our friend and former colleague, Carol Mitchell, yesterday at a thanksgiving service at Christ Church, and I know some of our parent community came to also join us. We continue to remember Andy Mitchell and the family in our prayers. We also were able to raise money for Princess Alice Hospice through our ‘Sponge the Staff’ afternoon on Monday at the juniors - something I know Carol would have enjoyed! More details below.
We’ve also had celebrations for Mrs Ward and Mrs Wogan this week, with children praying for them in collective worship and they both chose their favourite songs for the children to sing. At an event of staff past and present, we were also able to reflect on the massive contribution they both have made to Christ Church over many years. We wish them all God’s blessings for them in their next adventures!
As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding year, I would like to thank you for your continued support and partnership with the school. This half term, our theme has been Guidance for the Journey, and it has been wonderful to see how the children have reflected on the ways in which we are guided - by our faith, our values, and by those who care for us. As we approach the summer break, we are reminded that journeys often include times of rest as well as movement, and this holiday offers a valuable opportunity for families to pause, recharge, and enjoy time together.
Wherever your summer journey takes you, I pray that it is filled with joy, safety, and special moments. May you find guidance in the simple things - kindness, reflection, and togetherness - and return refreshed for the new academic year ahead. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in September, ready to continue our journey of learning and growth together, to ‘become the people God made us to be’.
Our School Updates for Parents
School Uniform Reminders
In this hot weather, it has been very appropriate to loosen our uniform expectations towards the end of this term. However, we are looking forward to seeing all our children, smart and fresh, in their school uniforms when they return on Monday 7th September. This will include, just to remind you, in case you may be buying new shoes over the summer, our expectations for footwear: Children should wear black shoes that support their feet and which children can put on by themselves. Trainers can be worn, but they must be completely black (including the sole) with no colour logos - this includes PE. For more information, click here.
Free School Meals change in eligibility criteria
From the start of the 2026 to 2027 academic year, FSM eligibility is being expanded to all children from households in receipt of Universal Credit regardless of household earnings. This letter will give you more information and if you would like us to check whether you are eligible, please complete this form.
