Weekly Parent Update - Friday 6th March

It’s been a week of much interest at Christ Church, which began with a 1st place success for our netball team in a borough competition.

Weekly Update from Mr Meehan

It’s been a week of much interest at Christ Church, which began with a 1st place success for our netball team in a borough competition, and an exciting Zoolab visit for our Year 1 children.

We’ve also been inspiring our Year 6 children with a trip to a Science Show at Surbiton High earlier in the week, and the Year 5s are there today.

We all enjoyed World Book Day yesterday, with some very creative word and phonics costumes around the school! The children did so well with this. We love reading at Christ Church, and one of the favourite moments each month is when the newly published Parrot Street titles are delivered to each class! My thanks to Miss Brown for all her planning for this special day.

I’d like to also commend all the children that took part in Saturday’s Craft Fair, organised by our PTA Chairs, Kendra and Jason. It was a delight on Saturday to see not only the creations the children had made, but also their confidence and engagement in selling their crafts. It was a lovely event.

We have had a good handful of entries in our junior talent show, so we are looking forward to this event later in the month. All our entrants will have a time on stage to shine!

Looking ahead, following our recent round of parent consultations, we have our Spring Learning Look coming up in a couple of weeks on Thursday 19th March after school, an opportunity for you to see some of the learning your children have been doing in class.

Have a lovely weekend, as we hopefully continue to see some glimmers of Spring arriving!

Our School Updates for Parents

OPAL Bingo

Last week, we launched OPAL Bingo. Each class will take part and when a child brings an item in the class can put a cross through that box. There will be prizes for the first class to tell Mr Burkinshaw that they have completed a column, a row or (for a big prize) the whole sheet. Congratulations to Macaw, who were the first class to complete a column and Eagle who were the first class to complete a row.

Curriculum Email Survey

Currently, only 11% of families have responded to our communication survey, suggesting the weekly curriculum emails from teachers may not be hitting the mark. We have no desire to add noise to your busy week, so we truly need your honest feedback to ensure these updates are actually useful. Please take two minutes to complete the form sent to parents/carers via email.

Careers Fair - Friday 5th June

We invite you to inspire our Y5 and 6 pupils by sharing a glimpse into your work. At this age, children are beginning to connect their classroom learning to future possibilities. By talking about your job - whether you're in trade, tech, healthcare, or the arts - you help transform school work into life skills. We want our children to leave us curious about the world of work, and your real-life stories are the best way to ignite that spark. Please complete this short form if you are interested, and Mr Burkinshaw will contact you.

Art Days

We will be having Arts Days next week on Thursday 12th & Friday 13th March. Parents/carers will be able to come and view the art of their child' s class and the other classes as part of our Learning Look on Thursday 19th March from pick up until 4:30pm.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week - 16th to 20th March

Our focus this will be on raising awareness of different types of neurodiversity (e.g. Autism, ADHD, dyslexia dyspraxia). Too often, we all focus on the barriers that neurodiverse people experience day to day. Whilst not invalidating these barriers, we hope that this week will allow us to focus on the strengths that neurodivergent children and adults bring - if all of our brains were the same, life would be VERY boring! For more information on neurodiversity, please visit this website

PTA Whole School Mufti Day

Next Friday, 13th March children can wear their own clothes for a £1 donation to the PTA.

School Street Trial

We are very pleased by the reduction in traffic at drop of and pick up in Lime Grove. To help RBK assess the impact of the trial which runs until June, please do give them your feedback here.

PS Catering are looking for a catering assistant to join their team - 3 hours per day term time only. £12.21 / hour rising to £12.71 in April.  Ideally the candidate will have a full driving licence. Please contact Erin Tomlin, their area manager, on 07584 757305 or erin@pscateringmanagement.co.uk
