Weekly Parent Update - Friday 20th March

Tomorrow is an opportunity to get involved in a fun PTA event - the annual Easter Egg hunt, which begins at the infant site at 2pm.

Weekly Update from Mr Meehan

You will have received this week an update from our PTA, who continue to work very hard in the school, often behind the scenes. Many of our children finished their week last week, enjoying the disco events that the PTA put on, and there is another opportunity tomorrow to get involved in a fun PTA event - the annual Easter Egg hunt, which begins at the infant site at 2pm, so come along and join in the fun if you can.

It was a delight to see all the artwork the children created for their art days last week, and these were also on display in classrooms on for last night’s Learning Look. Through our art days, we had a great celebration of a variety of artists.

One of the things we love to do at Christ Church is to go beyond the classroom for our learning. Many of our children have also been out and about this week, with Year 3 at the Kingston Odeon on Tuesday. Both our Year 2s and Year 5s were out and about on Wednesday, seeing very different shows, with Year 2 watching “Cinderella, Ice Cream Seller” at the Polka Theatre and Year 5 visiting New Malden Baptist Church for the ‘Easter Experience’.

We also had great drama and performance of our own on Wednesday night at the juniors, with our annual ‘Talent Show’, back for a second time, courtesy of Miss Brown’s coordination of this. We were treated to singing, dance, gymnastics, magic, poetry and even stand-up comedy! It was a really fun evening, and many children had their moment to shine.

We reach the end of an era next week, as we say goodbye to the Allums. Derek and Lindsay have offered so many years of service, and we will really miss them at Christ Church. On Wednesday, they will be guest judges at the Easter bonnet parade, as the infant children say goodbye to them, then in the afternoon, we will be gathering in the juniors to say a goodbye, following the Year 4 Samba performance. I am sure we all will want to extend our thanks to them in their final week.

In staff news, we are pleased to welcome Miss Brown (a different Miss Brown!) to Starfish next term, and Mrs Wilson in to Turtle class. Both have been volunteering in the school previously, and so it’s great to welcome them to the staff team. There will be lots of change as next term begins, as previously mentioned, with Mrs Forey taking over as breakfast club and Connect leader, Mr O’Connor beginning as site manager, and Mrs Churms joining our leadership team and getting started with us as our Business Manager, working with Mr Duncan in the early weeks of the summer term, before he retires at the end of April. Please say hello to new members of staff as you get to see them!

Finally, congratulations to Elm House at the Infants and Lime House at the Juniors as they are the winning houses this term! The winning houses will be treated to the privilege of sitting on benches all next week in collective worship.

I hope you and your family have a lovely weekend when we get there, and enjoy the Easter Egg hunt if you are popping along to that! If you have been celebrating Eid at this time, then we wish you Eid Mubarak!

Our School Updates for Parents

Infants Easter Bonnet Parade

Next Wednesday, we will be celebrating Easter with our Easter bonnet parade for children from Nursery to Year 2. Children should come to school wearing an Easter decorated bonnet, hat or cap. The parade will happen in Collective Worship, where we will be joined by Mr & Mrs Allum to say farewell.

Infants: Afternoon

Please leave the infant school premises promptly after the school day, as our inner and outer gates need to be locked at 3:15 pm, as we have children from Connect on the premises and we need to secure the site to keep them safe.

Juniors: Morning

Unless they have a club or group, children should not arrive on the junior site before 8:40 am. Children in Years 3 and 4 must be supervised until the inner gate has opened. Children should not run around or play among the parked cars.

Reminder: No judo club next Wednesday

Please can we remind you that there will be no judo club next Wednesday 25th March.

Decorators Needed

Are there any parents who would be interested in painting our junior playground Nook at a discounted rate? If so, please contact the school office.
