Weekly Update from Mr Meehan
It’s been a lovely sunny week at Christ Church this week, with opportunities to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.
Thanks for your support for our Charity Tuesday, our most colourful day of the week! Our 5K New Malden walk was to support the National Autistic Society and we raised £674.20 - thanks for your amazing generosity; this is the most we have raised on one of our Charity Tuesdays! My thanks also to Mrs Brooks for helping to organise the day. Congratulations to Lime House at the Infants and Chestnut House at the Juniors with Chestnut being the overall winners of the competition to raise the most money.
A big well done to Lion class, who put on their class-led worship this week, sharing all they have learnt this year through a reworking of Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off. We were also treated to a lovely country dance, which they will be showcasing at the Country Dance festival on the 16th June. Year 1 had a lovely day out yesterday at Wisley in the sunshine, going on a flower hunt and planting their own nasturtiums (as well as enjoying the coach journey!).
Finally, a reminder to fill out our parent survey to help us find out what you like about our school and any development points that we can consider over this term, and the year ahead.
I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead and good luck to Mrs Hedman and our pupils participating in tomorrow’s mini London Marathon (details below)!
Our School Updates for Parents
KS2 SATS - Volunteer Test Administrators Needed
Year 6 sit their SATs in English and maths from Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th May. We need two adults in each room each morning, one is always a member of school staff and one a volunteer. Please use the form sent via email if you are able to volunteer on any or all of the days. Training and refreshments will be provided.
Y5 & Y6 Soloists’ Concert - Tuesday 2nd June in the Junior Hall 9am
If your child plays an instrument or sings and they would like to take part, they can send in an audition video to Mrs Bond (lucy.bond@ccnm.uk) by Friday 8th May (but sooner if possible). This will then give the teachers time to look through all of the auditions to choose a variety of performances for the concert, and allow time for rehearsing at school with the piano if needed. Parents and the children's classmates will be invited to watch the concert. Please aim to keep the pieces short. If your child chooses a song, stick to one or two verses and a chorus. Also, please ensure the lyrics are appropriate and that the song can be sung easily by a child (some pop songs are unsuitable for young voices). The children may sing in a group with friends if they can arrange a video audition together. We will be available to accompany instrumental pieces and songs if we can find the music (or you can send in a backing track). Please note that this concert is only for children in Years 5 and 6.
TCS Mini London Marathon - Saturday 25th April
This Saturday the school will be represented by Mrs Hedman and 15 of our pupils in the Mini London Marathon. If anyone would like to, they could go along to cheer them on, along with the other 22,000 children who will be participating this year. The race starts at 10am from Horse Guards Parade and finishes at The Mall. Supporters can watch from Birdcage Walk or in front of Buckingham Palace. There’s also a Public Grandstand on The Mall. You can also visit the fan zone and watch participants cross the Finish Line via a live stream on the Main Stage screen. The event will also be streamed live on BBC radio and on iPlayer. A big thank you to Mrs Harabasz-Bunting for organising our participation in this event.
Support Our School through the Governors' Fund
The Governors' Fund is a simple yet powerful way for parents to support the school and enrich every child's learning experience. For example, your donations help provide every Junior child with a Chromebook and allows us to access extra funding exclusive to church schools. Plus, donations can be Gift-Aided, increasing their value by 25% at no extra cost to you. While the PTA organises fundraising events and community activities, the Governors' Fund relies solely on direct donations to support essential school improvements. We’ve made donating quicker, easier, and more convenient so you just click the Donate button on the school website. We ask parents to set up a regular monthly donation to spread the cost and allow the school to plan ahead, but any contribution is greatly appreciated.
