Weekly Parent Update - Friday 12th June
Our special visitor of the week was Sir Ed Davey yesterday, who met our pupil leadership team, some of our staff and parents of SEND children, as well as leading a Q&A with all our junior children.
Weekly Update from Mr Meehan
There was lots of activity here last Saturday with over 40 volunteers from EARNT helping out with jobs around the site, including sweeping, weeding, painting and rubbish clearance. Some parents came to help too. Big thanks to our PTA chairs, Mr O’Connor and Mr Burkinshaw who all helped to set this up and make it happen.
There’s been a BMXciting buzz on the junior playground this week, with our visiting BMX academy workshops. The children have so enjoyed this! Every year at the juniors, as part of our board and creative curriculum, we build in an exciting different kind of sporty workshop to run over a week in the summer and the BMXs have been a real hit!
Also this week, Year 4 were out and about to see “Bonjour Les Amis” at the British Film Institute and some of our Year 2 and Year 4 pupils took part in the New Malden Cluster Swimming Gala, on a rather wet day in the pool and outside of the pool!
We invited Year 3 parents to a lunch service this week, courtesy of PS Catering; whilst the uptake was quite small on this, we are offering the same opportunity to our Year 5 parents next Monday, and our Year 4 parents on 9th July, if you’d like to join us for lunch!
Our special visitor of the week was Sir Ed Davey yesterday, who met our pupil leadership team, some of our staff and parents of SEND children, as well as leading a Q&A with all our junior children. It was a great honour to have here at Christ Church. The children had some amazing questions for him!
Next week, we are looking forward to our 3rd annual “Booknic” to celebrate the joy of reading. Please see Miss Brown’s message below about how it works and what your child needs to bring.
In the meantime, have a lovely weekend - in which I think summer is returning!
Our School Updates for Parents
Booknic - Next Wednesday, 17th June
We are absolutely delighted to be hosting another Booknic. This event is a wonderful celebration of reading for pleasure, giving our pupils and staff some quiet, reflective time to unwind with a great story. Our teachers will be encouraging plenty of "book gossip" among our younger readers, while also taking some time to relax and dive into their own books. Weather permitting, we’ll be heading outside to enjoy the sunshine and read alongside our Chums! To make the session extra cosy, pupils are invited to bring:
- A Favourite Read: This could be a beloved book, a comic, a magazine, or anything else they enjoy reading.
- A Picnic Blanket: If you have one at home, please send it in with your child.
- A Healthy Treat: Children are more than welcome to bring an extra fruit snack to munch on while they read.
Thank you for helping us foster a love for Reading!

Special Lunch Menu - Thursday 18th June
PS Catering will be providing a special lunch next Thursday 18th June. Please see the Summer picnic menu.
PTA Donation Days
We are looking forward to our Summer Fair on Saturday 20th June. There is still one more day when children can bring in things for the fair. On Friday 19th June children should bring in cakes and baked goods, homemade or bought and the house that brings in the most will have extra play. In addition, you can post your small party bag style toys through the post boxes in both receptions and parents can pick up the empty goodie bags to fill with nut-free sweets. All the information is on this countdown poster.
