Weekly Parent Update - Friday 10th July
Year 6 have just returned from a wonderful week on the Isle of Wight. Thank you to the children, who made lifelong memories, and to the staff who enabled that.
Weekly Update from Mr Burkinshaw
Year 6 have just returned from a wonderful week on the Isle of Wight. Blessed with brilliant weather, we enjoyed a jam-packed itinerary that included stepping back in time at Carisbrooke Castle, testing their teamwork with thrilling water sports, visiting the gentle residents at the Donkey Sanctuary, taking a scenic boat trip around the Needles, exploring the magic of Blackgang Chine, and enjoying multiple visits to the beach. It was a truly fantastic week. Thank you to the children, who made lifelong memories, and to the staff who enabled that.
We have experienced exceptionally hot weather back at school this week. The health and well-being of the children is always our top priority, and while the soaring temperatures have meant adapting our usual routines and postponing some planned activities, the children and staff have coped magnificently. Thank you for your continued support in sending children to school equipped with water bottles, hats, and sun cream. Because of this extreme heat, our Infant Sports Day has been postponed until next Tuesday; we look forward to a fantastic morning of sport then, hoping the slightly cooler forecast makes it a much more comfortable experience for our athletes and spectators alike.
As we approach the final stretch of the summer term, children will spend time with their new teachers and classes on Wednesday’s transition morning. Following this, on Friday 17th, we will hold our End of Year Service at 9:30am to celebrate the year and say goodbye to Year 6. Parents are welcome to join us at the church for this special occasion.
This afternoon, you will receive a letter with details of how to read your child’s record of achievement. I do hope you will take time to celebrate your child’s progress with them, once you receive the report.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Where our Year 6 leavers are heading
We have so enjoyed having our Year 6 pupils as part of our school community, but now we wish them well as they move on to pastures new. They have a leavers’ celebration on Tuesday and we will be saying one last goodbye to them at our church service next week.
Our 58 Year 6 leavers are moving on to 15 different secondary schools this September. The majority - 46 pupils - are heading to one of the excellent local state secondary schools, with Coombe Girls' (22) and Coombe Boys' (12) the most popular destinations, alongside The Holy Cross, Wimbledon College and Tolworth Girls'. Eight pupils secured places at selective grammar schools, including Tiffin, Nonsuch and Wilson's, and four are moving to selective independent schools, among them St Paul's Girls'. We wish all our leavers every success as they take this next step, and thank them and their families for being part of our school community.
