Weekly Parent Update - Thursday 20th June
It was a delight to see our new outdoor nurture garden at the infants being used for our Forest School workshops earlier in the week.
Weekly Update from Mr Meehan
It’s been a fun-packed Science Week at school, which got off with a bang with science workshops all of Monday for every class. Today, we are celebrating with all the children about their science achievements over the week, and Year 4 also have a special science workshop evening, which promises to include some impressive science experiments! My thanks to Mrs Coltman for masterminding the week.
It was also a delight to see our new outdoor nurture garden at the infants being used for our Forest School workshops earlier in the week - and thankfully the weather was kind! The children enjoyed the tent, the hammock, the swings and had a great time exploring this new space. Yesterday, the juniors enjoyed a go in a flight simulator, which parked up on the junior playground. Thanks so much to Dr and Mr Polman for organising this for us. I even had a go, though the landing was bumpy and I slightly missed the runway!
Congrats to our Year 4 team who took part in the New Malden and Coombe Cluster swimming gala yesterday afternoon and our Reception and Year 1 children, who took part today in a mini Athletics Festival at Corpus Christi. These children, together with some of our Year 2 girls, who recently took part in a girls’ football festival, will be awarded certificates next week.
Next week, is our ‘Well-being Week’ when we aim to include a few fun things and a bit of lighter learning each day. Our Year 6 worship leaders will be starting us off right with a collective worship all about well-being on Monday. My thanks to our Year 6 worship leaders, who have worked hard all year and this will be their fifth and final time of leading collective worship, at both the infants and juniors.
In the meantime, have a great weekend, and maybe do something nice for your own well-being over the next couple of days. Remember no school tomorrow for children!
MRS SEAGO RECOMMENDS
Following on from Science Week, I would like to recommend a book with a scientific twist: “Izzy the Inventor and the Time-Travelling Gnome” by Zanna Davidson. This fun, easy-to-read book, set in Fairytale Land, is the latest in the “Izzy the Inventor” series, and is ideal for reluctant readers or those recently moving on to chapter books. Thinking on her feet, can Izzy use her scientific knowledge to help rescue her friend? With lively illustrations and a simple-to-follow storyline, it includes some fun experiments you can try at home!
