Weekly Parent Update - Friday 13th December

It’s been a very Christmassy week at Christ Church which has included both our junior production, ‘A Christmas Journey’ and our reception and nursery Nativity.

Weekly Update from Mr Meehan

It’s been a very Christmassy week at Christ Church this week, which has included both our junior production, ‘A Christmas Journey’ and our reception and nursery ‘Wiggly Nativity’. These were lovely occasions, and the children can all be very proud of their performances. Our staff worked very hard to make it all happen, and I am grateful to everyone who played their part, on stage or behind the scenes!

Thank you for your generosity towards our chosen charities for this year - Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness, Cancer Research UK and Tearfund on our Christmas Jumper day on Wednesday. We will continue our focus on these charities in the new year with our Charity Tuesdays over the year. We’ll let you know next week how much we’ve raised so far for each charity.

Wednesday was a fun day, with our Christmas Dinner as well, and so a bit of a shout out to our Nourish staff who masterminded this and made sure it was a great occasion, and very festive. Lots of great jumpers on display too!

Equally, for all who supported the work of the PTA in putting on our wonderful Christmas Fair, thank you for helping to raise £8335 which will go towards our playground plans.

Our winning house for the term was announced this morning in collective worship, which was Elm at the infants and Poplar at the juniors. This house/these houses will enjoy a special treat in the hall next Wednesday watching a short Christmas film with squash and biscuits. They can also bring a Christmas accessory or small cuddly toy to school with them. Congratulations to these houses!

With Christmas ever-approaching rapidly, I hope you have a fun, but manageable, weekend!

Our School Updates for Parents

SEN Survey Feedback

Thank you for your feedback to our recent survey about SEN in the school. It highlighted the caring, inclusive environment and the dedication of our staff in supporting children with SEND. However, there are clear areas for improvement, particularly around the consistency and availability of SEND support, more proactive communication with parents, and enhancing behavioral and emotional support for children and parents. Thank you to all the parents who responded to the survey, the randomly pickled winner of the £25 John Lewis voucher is Glyn Hooper, who can collect his prize from the junior office.

Additionally, in order to share more about our approaches and hear more of your ideas for supporting parents of children with SEN, we are also hosting two tea and cake afternoons in the new year, one at the infant site on Wednesday 15th January and one at the junior site on Friday 14th March, particularly aimed at parents who have a child with SEN. We’d love you to come along, so we can share more ideas; more details on this will follow in the new year.

Some feedback regarded more information around staff training. We continue to put staff training front and centre of our work as a school, particularly focused on our school improvement priorities. Last week, our staff training included input on ADHD from an educational psychologist and we have a session plotted in next term regarding dyslexia. Our INSET days, at the end of this term and the beginning of the next, focus generally on adapting teaching and learning to meet the needs of all our children.

Autumn Term Reports

In response to feedback, next week we will share your child’s new, autumn term reports. These reports will not include a teacher or headteacher comment and will give you information about your child’s attainment and attendance and include results of any standardised assessments they have taken this term.
