Weekly Update - Friday 13th January

It was great to see Potter class leading worship in front of their parents and sharing some of their learning with us yesterday.

Weekly Update from Mr Meehan

It has been lovely over these last couple of weeks to welcome some new children to our school as term has started, and a special welcome to any of our families who may be reading these weekly updates for the first time. These weekly updates, together with the curriculum emails from the teachers, should tell you most of what you need to know about everything that is going on in our school and in your child’s class.

I also want to thank you again for your generosity with all your donations of food for our ‘reverse advent calendars’ before Christmas. I know how grateful our local food bank were for all gifts received, particularly at this current time.  We hope you enjoyed all the Christmas festivities, shows and services. We welcome your feedback on these events, so that we can continue to plan and improve all our Christmas arrangements from year to year (yes, I know it’s about 10-11 months away, but we like to get ahead!).

It has been a busy week in school this week. Potter class were particularly working hard in practising for their class worship yesterday; it was great to see them leading worship in front of their parents and sharing some of their learning with us. As we begin our term with a real focus on writing, I’ve also had the pleasure this week of seeing some great historical writing from some of our Year 2 children and some of our Reception children getting started really enthusiastically with their new ‘Floppy’s phonics’ activity books.

We are always keen to support parents in supporting their children in their learning, and the ‘talk for writing’ you do at home with them always then helps them with their writing in school. In Years 3 and 4 today, we are also introducing reading comprehension bookmarks to help you in your discussions with your children about their reading when sharing books with them at home. Thank you also to infant parents in helping us to get started with the new Floppy’s phonics books and to our Year 6 parents who have already responded regarding the forthcoming SATS meeting and our Year 6 revision books.

We are also delighted to have another author visiting us this term, Ellie Irving, who already has books published for junior children and is about to publish her first book aimed at infant age children. We’ll give more details on this next week, including how you can pre-order Eliie’s books to get them signed when she visits us in a few weeks.

Have a great weekend, and let’s hope the ‘January rains’ stop soon!

Key Updates for Parents

Dance Day Lunch Menu next Thursday

Nourish are providing a special ‘Dance Day’ menu on Thursday 19th January.  Please see the attached for details.  If you would like to take this opportunity for your child to try a school lunch for the first time, for Junior children, please book and pay via ParentMail under Accounts/School Dinners - Juniors. You will need to select the day and the ‘self choice’ option. For infants, there is no need to order; if your child does not come to school with a packed lunch on this day they will be given a hot meal.

Parking

Sadly we receive regular complaints from neighbours whose driveways are blocked by our parents - often when they are trying to leave to pick up their own children from school - please don’t. There is parking in the church car park should you need too.

School Uniform

Please note that we will no longer be accepting donations of second hand uniform with the old school logo as we continue to phase this out by the end of this academic year.

SCL Holiday Club

Please see the attached flyer for details of SCL’s February Half Term Holiday Club.
