Safe Dismissal of Children
We are committed to ensuring all children leave the school site safely and securely. Please read the following procedures carefully.
No Collection by Under-16
No one under the age of 16 may collect a child from school or after-school clubs.
Y5 and Y6 Independent Travel
With written parental permission, children in Year 5 and Year 6 may walk home unaccompanied. This must be approved in advance and is subject to the conditions below.
Winter Restriction: From October half-term to Spring half-term, children are not permitted to walk home unaccompanied after clubs due to reduced daylight hours.
New Collection Safeguards (from September 2025)
Password System
Each child is assigned a unique collection password, issued in September. Parents must share this password with any authorised collector, who will be asked to confirm it at pickup.
Parent Identification Photos
We collect a photograph of each parent or carer (with their child) at the start of the year or at induction, and of anyone else (childminder, grandparent etc) who regularly collects the child. This helps staff identify authorised collectors quickly and safely. Parents should send an email to the office (office@ccnm.uk) with any photos, stating clearly the name of the child and who else is in the picture.
Changes to Collection
If someone different is collecting your child, you must notify the school in advance using our online Collection Change Form. This is monitored daily by the school office and communicated to class teachers and club leaders.
External Club Providers
All external clubs operating on school grounds are required to follow our safe dismissal protocols.
Independent Travel Agreement (Years 5 and 6)
Parents who wish their child to walk home alone must complete a permission form and agree to the following:
- Parental Consent: Includes child’s name, class, and a statement accepting responsibility for their safety after school.
- Readiness: Child understands road safety, can respond to emergencies, and confidently follows the route home.
- Travel Details: Usual route, estimated arrival time, and mobile phone access (if applicable).
- Contact Availability: A named adult must be contactable during the child’s journey, and emergency details kept up to date.
- Winter Safety: Parents must review arrangements during darker months and ensure high visibility clothing is worn.
- Changes: Any one-off changes to dismissal must be notified in writing.
- Right to Withdraw: The school may revoke permission if the arrangement is no longer considered safe.
This agreement is signed annually and reviewed mid-year.
