iShare Learning Themes
Each half term we will all be sharing our learning on a theme throughout the school in our worship times and in our classes and through some iShare buddy activities with our Christ Church Chums. Each theme will be underpinned with a Bible verse worth knowing!
Autumn 1 - Reaching High
Supporting Bible Verse
I keep trying to reach the goal and get the prize. That prize is mine because God called me through Christ to the life above.
Philippians 3v14
Objectives
- It is good to set ourselves goals and work towards these in our lives, for our benefit and to benefit others
- God gives us courage and confidence to help us to work at and follow our dreams and goals
- The ultimate goal for a Christian is to worship Jesus in this life and in heaven, seen through choices we make in how we live
- We all make mistakes along the way, but these can help us to learn and grow stronger
Autumn 2 - Light Shines in Darkness
Supporting Bible Verse
Jesus spoke again to the people … “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8 v 12
Objectives
- In difficult times, God can be our light and help us through trouble
- Sometimes we have to have faith and be patient to find a solution/better time and to wait for ‘the light at the end of the tunnel’
- Like a small light can bring light to a large room, our prayers can bring hope in dark situations
- Where it is dark/there is no hope, we have a responsibility help to spread light to each other
- Jesus said he is ‘the Light of the World’ and faith in him will help us in dark times in our lives
Spring 1 - Words of Life
Supporting Bible Verse
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Ephesians 4 v29
Objectives
- We all need to consider our own words – what we say and how we say it
- Our words have the power to encourage others, bring hope and speak love
- Equally, careless words can hurt people or show disrespect – name-calling, swearing
- In difficult situations/conversations, God can help us find the right words to say and speak ‘words of life’ to others
- ‘Actions speak louder than words’ – but words do matter! Words shape the way we think
Spring 2 - God so loved the World
Supporting Bible Verse
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3 v16
Objectives
- God demonstrated sacrificial, unconditional love in giving his son to die – what kind of love do we give to others?
- It is good for us to look after our world and the people on the world; God has given us this responsibility – in doing so, we worship him
- At Easter, we celebrate God’s love through Jesus dying on the cross as a sacrifice for sin and rising again from the dead; Christians believe this is promised to them too!
Summer 1 - We Are Family
Supporting Bible Verse
Think how much the Father loves us. He loves us so much that he lets us be called his children, as we truly are.
1 John 3 v1
Objectives
- We all have different experience of families, but families at their best support each other, live together and have fun and learn together
- We identify ourselves as part of the family – son, brother, father, aunt, cousin, etc – and our roles have different responsibilities
- God sees us as all part of his family and he calls us all his children. We are all different and our families are different, but we should strive to live in harmony with each other
Summer 2 - Guidance for the Journey
Supporting Bible Verse
With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment.
Always let him lead you, and he will clear the road for you to follow.
Proverbs 3 vv5-6
Objectives
- We don’t know what will happen in the future, but God asks us to trust him to lead us
- Sometimes we are not sure what decisions to make for the future – asking friends and family and praying to God can help and guide us
- We all benefit from having somebody lead us and guide us, eg parent helping a child, a coach helping you with a new skill, so that we can grow and gain confidence
Christ Church Chums
We have partnered year groups so that the juniors can form close links with the infants and the infants will see many familiar faces as they transfer to the juniors. Children are the younger chum from Year 1 to Year 3, they are then the older chum from Year 4 to Year 6.
Children should retain the same chum as they journey through school. The paired classes will meet together each half term to enjoy an iShare Buddies activity, based on our iShare Learning worship themes. This is an excellent opportunity for the older children to act as mentors and teachers to the younger ones. Children will also be invited to see their chums’ performances and other special events.
