How to Help Your Child

A child’s education is a partnership between parents and school. From when a child arrives at Christ Church to when they leave, we are committed to working with parents to enable their child to fulfil their potential and become the person God made them to be.

The most important ways you can help your child are:

  • Show an interest in what they do at school - ask them questions about their day, for example:
    • Was today a good or a bad day?
    • What made you feel the happiest today?
    • When did you feel most proud of yourself today?
    • What challenged you today?
    • What was the nicest thing you did for someone else today?
  • Ensure that they attend every day - children whose attendance is poor are less likely to achieve than those who attend regularly.
  • Give them a nutritious breakfast - children who eat breakfast do better in school, have better concentration, perform better on tests, have fewer behaviour problems and are more energetic. Children who eat breakfast are also more likely to maintain a healthy weight.
  • Ensure your child gets plenty of sleep. The NHS recommends that:
    • Children 3 to 5 years old should have 10 to 13 hours including naps
    • Children 6 to 12 years old should have 9 to 12 hours.
